GEORGE ELEK: Get on this 9/2 treble on busy midweek slate

George Elek is back with a treble on a busy slate of football league action

Two midweek trebles and two winners, so let’s go again for three from three.

First up in the Championship, Cardiff look a huge price to pile on the misery for strugglers Luton. The visitors haven’t won on the road since September at Millwall and have been atrocious on their travels for a long while.

They didn’t buck that trend when rolling over at Burnley on Saturday, beaten 4-0 in an away game where they yet again struggled to fashion any kind of goalscoring threat. Kal Naismith’s early red card didn’t help their cause, but it’s a red herring to think it was the main reason for their poor showing, as the game merely went by the form book.

Cardiff, on the other hand, generally enjoy playing in front of their own fans. They’ve won three of their last five and were only beaten by Burnley by a solitary goal in a game where they maybe deserved more. The market continues to think Luton will improve, but there’s little evidence to suggest that they will.

Then to Birmingham where there seems no good reason why Birmingham aren’t plenty shorter than 8/15 at home to Stevenage. They’ve won 15 of their last 17 at St Andrews and have only conceded one goal in their last 11.

Stevenage have done well this season under Alex Revell and have won their last two away games, but this is a much tougher test and we can expect the runaway league leaders to oblige.

We’ll have to wait til Wednesday night for the last leg, but it should be worth waiting for with Portsmouth likely to beat Plymouth Argyle. Fresh off a 1-0 home win over Leeds, John Mousinho’s side have been really impressive at Fratton Park for months now and should make light work of an Argyle side who just cannot seem to function away from home.

It’s blows my mind that there is still value to be had getting against Plymouth on the road given their general performance level means they’d likely struggle to pick up points in League One, but I’m not complaining and they make ideal treble fodder to take us home.
